A Quick Guide: HMOs
A House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a property that is occupied by residents who are not part of the same family. Some common examples include students, young professionals, and people with disabilities.
HMOs have become increasingly popular over the last few years due to their ease and flexibility for tenants. HMOs can also be very alluring to tenants because they frequently offer less expensive housing for people with limited housing options.
According to Gov.uk, “mandatory licensing of HMOs came into force in 2006 and demand for HMOs increased in the decade since, with a significant rise in properties with fewer than 3 stories being used as HMO accommodation, notably 2 story houses originally designed for families and flats.”
