Ray Smith

Ray Smith FRICS, Senior Partner – Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

Ray was elected to Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 1980 and then up to Fellowship in 1996.

Ray went on to start his career in valuation and surveys in 1979 at Messrs Rutters, in Bury St Edmunds but before this he worked within residential sales. Ray then joined Watsons in 1987 as a Senior Chartered Surveyor. He was elected as Senior Partner in 2015.

Ray carries out a large variety of work across the region for the company. If he’s not carrying out a survey somewhere, he will be mentoring our Trainee Chartered Surveyors with his wealth of expertise!

Mark Fidgett

Mark Fidgett MRICS, Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

Mark is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He obtained a degree in Building Surveying from the University of Reading in 2013 (a RICS accredited course). Mark joined Watsons the same year as a Trainee Chartered Surveyor and shadowed surveyors within Watsons for three full years, before passing his Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) in 2016.

Mark has built a breadth of knowledge of the local area and the property market. He undertakes inspections and valuations of residential property for a broad range of purposes, including RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys, Help To Buy Valuations.

Ruth Warnes

Ruth Warnes MRICS, Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

Ruth studied for a degree in Land Management at the University of Reading. In 2005 Ruth qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). After a career break to raise a family, Ruth worked in both Trading and Commercial Valuations before running a team of Property Managers for a large pension fund.

Ruth joined Watsons in early 2015 and carried out a large number of residential surveys and valuations, before taking some time out, and returning to the Watsons team at the start of October 2017. She undertakes inspections and valuations of residential property for a broad range of purposes, including RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys, Help To Buy Valuations.

Alex Mason

Alex Mason BSc (Hons), MRICS – Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

Alex attended Sheffield Hallam University, and obtained a BSc (Hons) in Business Property Management. Alex was elected to membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 2010.

Learning the trade as a Commercial Surveyor, Alex joined Watsons in March 2020 as a Residential Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer. He undertakes inspections and valuations of residential property for a broad range of purposes, including RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys, Help To Buy Valuations.

Zoe Plant

Zoe Plant BSc (Hons), MRICS – Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

Zoe attended The Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester and obtained a BSc (Hons) in Rural Land Management, graduating in 2005. Zoe went on to start her career as an Assistant Land Agent, working in both Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. She was elected to membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 2009.

Zoe joined Watsons in April 2019. She undertakes inspections and valuations of residential property for a broad range of purposes, including RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys, Help To Buy Valuations.

John Garfoot

John Garfoot MRICS, Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer

John attended the College of Estate Management and started his career at an Estate Agency in Suffolk. He subsequently held management and senior management appointments across East Anglia, South Wales and the Midlands. John was elected to membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 2000.

John joined Watsons in April 2019. He undertakes inspections and valuations of residential property for a broad range of purposes, including RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys, Help To Buy Valuations.
