Many believe that all estate agents are the same.
We all list properties on Rightmove and other property portals where a lot of the action is. We all book viewings and value properties, and we all claim to offer a “high-quality”, “personal”, and “different” experience.
So, are there any real points of difference?
Well, yes!
It may shock you to know that there are no qualifications or training requirements for UK estate agents and regulation of the industry is minimal.
At a bare minimum, estate agents in the UK are legally required to belong to a redress scheme, register with the Information Commissioner, and register with HMRC for anti-money laundering purposes.
However, none of the above currently require formal training or qualifications to ensure agents are following best practices and really know what they are doing.
How to Spot an Experienced and Reputable Agent
The government looks set to regulate the industry and require that estate agents have minimum qualifications as well as work to a new code of practice.
Until that happens, if you want to be assured of the highest standards, look for NAEA Propertymark Protected companies and NAEA members.
Colleagues at Watsons choose to:
- Undertake formal training
- Pursue regular professional development to gain qualifications
- Work to a standard code of practice, like professionals in many other industries.
Watsons are proud to be Propertymark protected, and we invest in, train, and qualify all our staff, so that our clients are looked after to the highest possible standard.
On Average, our Residential Sales Team Has 15 Years’ Experience
I strongly believe no client should settle for less when it comes to dealing with the sale or purchase of their home.
I recently calculated that the residential sales team at Watsons has on average, 15 years of experience, including some who joined the team this year!
This combination of great training and experience delivers real results for our clients with sales achieved at an average of 100.1% of the asking price, clearly demonstrating that we are also working hard for clients and exceeding expectations.
