One of Norfolk’s most famous coastal towns, Sheringham boasts beautiful, award winning sandy beaches surrounded by stunning English countryside and pine forests.
Once a small fishing town, Sheringham is now a thriving tourist hot spot – the motto of the town is ‘Mare Ditat Pinusque Decorat’, Latin for “The sea enriches, and the pine adorns“.
Sheringham is centred around a traditional high street with a wide range of independent shops, restaurants and traditional pubs alongside a theatre, museum, library and a health centre. On Saturdays throughout the year and Wednesdays from April until November, there is a popular market in the car park next to the railway station, very close to our office, which attracts large crowds even out of the summer holiday season.
Sheringham is also a great place for leisure pursuits, with both the Splash Leisure Centre and a great cliff top 18-hole golf course. The town has fantastic transport links, benefiting from train lines to Norwich, Holt and Cromer, as well as road links connecting Sheringham to the rest of North Norfolk. The railway line to Cromer and Norwich remains open as the Bittern Line. Beyond Sheringham station, the line has been preserved as the North Norfolk Railway also known as “The Poppy Line” to the picturesque market town of Holt.
Sheringham plays host to a number of nationally recognised festivals, such as the 1940’s Weekend, The Coast Festival, Potty Festival, Viking Festival, Sheringham Carnival and Crab & Lobster Festival to name a few! Visitors come from across the country to join in the celebrations each year.
