The Forum

Norwich is the county town of Norfolk and one of the UK’s most prosperous cities.

Norwich has had an illustrious past and has an even more exciting future. Norwich is one of the most vibrant and attractive cities in Europe, and a hotbed for the arts, culture, music, nightlife, and tourism. Full of stunning historical architecture, Norwich has a Norman Cathedral and a 12th Century Castle, as well as an open-air market, quirky independent shops, restaurants, cinemas, galleries, theatres, cafés, bars, pubs and clubs.

With two shopping malls, Norwich is home to a number of independent retailers including Jarrolds Department Store, which has been based in Norwich since 1823. The Norwich Lanes, a collection of alleyways and cobbled streets based around Lower Goat Lane have become a major attraction for shoppers. The city now hosts the annual Norwich Lanes Summer Fayre with street markets, food stalls, entertainment and live music.

The city’s medieval centre of cobbled streets remains largely intact – Elm Hill has been used as the backdrop for many TV dramas and movies and is a fine example of a historic cobbled lane with many buildings dating back to the Tudor period. These sit adjacent to newer developments of modern buildings such as The Forum, the central library and exhibition centre, which is a stunning piece of contemporary architecture. Its glass front overlooks St. Peter Mancroft Church and the colourful six-day market, reflects the city in all its diversity.

Norwich Market, one of the largest daily markets in Europe, still sits on the same site that it did some 900 hundred years ago and continues to play host to a wide range of independent traders, from fishmongers to florists. Norwich is also home to two of the UK’s leading universities; the University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts and has a thriving youth population that continues to grow.

Norwich has sought after primary and secondary schools, with two of East Anglia’s leading independent schools based in the heart of the city; Norwich School and Norwich High School for Girls. The city also possesses great transport links, with regular trains to national destinations including London Liverpool Street, Cambridge, Liverpool, Nottingham, Manchester and Sheffield. Norwich’s road links include direct links to Peterborough, Cambridge, Ipswich, London (via M11) and Great Yarmouth to the East. Norwich is also served by Norwich International Airport, with regular flights to national and international destinations.

Norwich city centre has been through a fantastic redevelopment and regeneration scheme for more than the last decade and includes a number of high-quality residential developments, including Chapelfield, Riverside, Fellows Plain and Carrow Road. All of these developments, including new residential suburbs on the outskirts of the city, have made Norwich a fantastic place to live and work. Having opened our first office in Norwich in 1914, we’ve certainly noticed the difference!
